PROJECT DESCRIPTION - NOISE POD

THE NEED OF URBAN NOISE

This project is about the thought, that urban noise is maybe more needed than we actually
think.

Everybody; or let us say, a lot of people can be really disturbed and upset about a noisy
environment surrounding them. I want to show with this tinny room where you can sit/lay in
and listen to everyday noise compositions, that noise can be really relaxing and enjoying.
This does not only come from the right choice of noise at the right comes from the time, it
also depends on the room/environment you enjoy the soundscape.
To succeed with that, I will create a pod so to say a small capsule, where you are able to sit
yourself in, choose a noise composition and listen to it. Completely insular from the
surrounding noise, you will be able to enjoy the noise supported with a basic light installation,
which will interact with the noise in the pod - the played and your own noise.
Escape from the noise you are disturbed of, by listening to noise you like or have good
memories about.


Background

The idea for this project comes from my personal interest in urban life. Living in cities means
for me: Living with noise!
I realised in the past that a lot of people are getting disturbed by city noise. For me, that was
always a thing I could not understand. Noise always gave me a feeling of safety. In the way:
If there is noise, there are people. So, I feel save when there are people around, which is
probably the best precondition to live in a big city. With this I would like to show that noise
is good for us, of course beside all the medical side effects.


Need

This should be a relaxing, escaping room for people who want to escape from the real life for
a moment.
Use the positive side effects of noise to use it in a contemplation way, together with a basic
light therapy.
Just imagine you can beam yourself to the place you want to be right in this moment.……
Bora Bora? The French Riviera? Do you miss your job when you are on vacation?
People do want to have stuff they cannot get. The grass is always greener on the other side.
My pod can be an easy way to get where you want, without leaving the building, because the
“noise pod” is just in your living room waiting for you to start to play with your imagination
and your memories. Sometimes it is easier to see with your ears then with your eyes.
